Learning from Other Dentists | Dr. John Kois.

January 5, 2023

What does the Kois Center teach that dental school doesn't, and how should dentists keep up with 3D printing, digital design and aligners? Dr. John Kois joins the DINKs to kick off the new year with a conversation on mentorship, risk-based treatment planning and the future of dental continuing education. In this episode: - Why Dr. Jeff Horowitz tells every new dentist: find a mentor, find a philosophy - The Kois Center after COVID, and why younger dentists are coming in - 3D printers aren't plug and play: printing vs milling and controlling the variables - "The dip": what happens when you take on new technology - Should dental schools still teach waxing? - New Kois courses: restorative dentistry for the airway patient, aligners and exocad - Risk-based treatment conversations instead of "selling" dentistry - His advice for dental students: surround yourself with people who make you better Dr. John Kois founded the Kois Center. He received his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania and a certificate in periodontal prosthodontics with an MSD from the University of Washington, where he is an affiliate professor in the graduate restorative program. He maintains a private practice limited to prosthodontics in Tacoma and Seattle.
