He graduated from the University of Tennessee dental school and completed residencies at the VA hospitals in Leavenworth and San Diego. He co-authored Fundamentals of Operative Dentistry and Global Diagnosis (Quintessence), is a Diplomate and past president of the American Board of General Dentistry, and is past president of the Academy of Operative Dentistry and the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry.
